So, I am thinking about changing the direction of the good ol' blog. I would like to post about the changes we have made to our first house over the years. I hope to post once a week until all the changes have been shown off. This change in direction is inspired by the numerous DIY/craft blogs I follow in my google reader. I am hoping that maybe some of our changes will inspire others. Stick with me while I get the hang of this and please follow along :)
On another note, my sweet husband got me a SW paint deck for Christmas. We have already painted our living room and I know there will be more to come.

Summer is OVER!
Whew - another summer gone. I only say it like that because for the first time in my life I had a desk job all summer long. I was hired to be an office manager on April 1st and my hours were 7:30 - 4. Oh how I missed the sunshine when June came around. I did teach swim lessons in the afternoons so I got enough vitamin D to carry on :)
August began and I only had two interviews for teaching jobs (not many considering how many resumes I put out there). Turns out, all I needed was the one good interview I had at St. Paul Catholic School! I was interviewed on a Friday morning and got the call on Friday evening to begin work the following Monday! Talk about a whirlwind!
So now August is almost over and I am the Title 1 teacher for SPCS in Pensacola. I am very very happy and looking forward to a great school year. Best wishes to all the other teachers out there.
Until things change...

Happenings . . .
I feel like spring has prung, done its thing, and now it is SUMMER! This is the best time to live where I do b/c the beach is basically my backyard :)
Since last posting, a couple of things have changed. "purdy burpy" is still on facebook, but now also has a web-site: www.purdyburpy.com The deal with the local boutique store did not work out, but purdy burpy is still carrying on. I try to get at least 4 new designs out each month.
I have also found a job!!!!!! I am currently an office manager for a local elevator company. It is easy work and has allowed me to learn about a new industry. At this point in time, I am loving it. I am sure I will miss my "teacher schedule" when all my pals are hangin' on the beach and I am sittin' at the office. I just tell myself, a job is a job.
until something else changes . . . . . . . . .

Spring has sprung!
That new 'hobby' I talked briefly about last time has in fact turned into something. I am calling it "purdy burpy" and even have an etsy page. I also have made myself a page on facebook where you can become a fan. :) I am also working on a deal to sell them in a local boutique store... fingers crossed.
Other than that, nothing much else has changed except for the arrival of spring! Yay for not having to bundle up to go outside! I love spring in Florida. I have already begun to lie out in the sun and work on my tan!
Until something changes.........

2010 has begun :)
With 2010 underway, I am realizing that not much has changed since my last post. I am still substituting and job hunting. Roy is still busy with his business.
I have however, taken on a new 'hobby'. I have arrived at the time in my life where friends seem to be pregnant all the time, if not more than one at a time. I belive in using my talents to make home-made gifts. I am even considering selling these home-made gifts online and hopefully at local shops. I am hesitant to write any more about them at this time as it is still a new undertaking.
Here's to wishing everyone a great 2010!

2009 coming to an end...
As 2009 comes to an end, I feel the need to reflect back on what all has happened...
When the year began, I was teaching PE at a local elementary school and loving it! Roy was getting his business up and moving. They made it one year in March and are still going strong. I feel like he gets more business as the months go on, which is great!
Spring came around and there was a ton of buzz about teachers being laid-off. I happened to be one of those teachers. I spent all summer looking for a job, not only in teaching but in just about anything I felt qualified for. (I was rejected for a file clerk position due to lack of experience! Ha Ha Ha) I occupied some of my time teaching swim lessons and hanging out at the beach with friends.
The school year started again in August, but not with me. I was still hunting for a job. This was the time that I became an Educational Consultant with Discovery Toys. I am still loving this job - I am selling a product that I believe in, that is great, and has passed the test of time.
I started substituting in October. This is a fun job - I show up, follow the teacher plans for the day, and go home. It is like being a teacher without all the paperwork, plans, and parents! Substituting has kept me busy and I am enjoying going to all of the different elementary schools in the area. I have not been brave enough yet to take on the middle or high school kids. Looking back now, I think being laid-off in June was a blessing in disguise.
With all this said, I am hoping for a fabulous December and a wonderful memory to leave 2009 with. Wishing all of you reading a great end to your year and an even better start to 2010!

Fall is here - let holiday shopping begin!
I am loving being an Educational Consultant with Discovery Toys! I recently had a party with a few friends where I talked about the wonderful toys. 10 days later when the box arrived on my doorstep, it was like a little mini-Christmas. Discovery Toys are great for all ages of children and even fun for adults to play with their children. I am posting the holiday gift sets flier because I believe that these are great packages at only $99 each. Please get in touch with me if you want to know more about Discovery Toys - rachel.discoverytoys@gmail.com
